Rookwood XX, Keramics 2010 & Art Glass 2010 New Name, New Location, Same Great Auction

On June 5th & 6th, 2010 the auction team, formerly of Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC, will hold their first sale as The Auctions at Rookwood, LLC. Along with the change in name, for the first time in over a decade, the auction will be held at a new site –the headquarters of The Rookwood Pottery Company! Riley Humler, Karen Singleton, Jim Fleming and Mark Mussio will present nearly 1000 lots of fine Art Pottery and Art Glass in the three session format (Keramics, Art Glass and Rookwood) familiar to previous auction attendees, in the heart of Cincinnati’s historic Over The Rhine neighborhood. And, as a special new attraction, the Auctions and the Pottery will host a Gala Dinner event Friday, June 4th with special guest speaker Anita Ellis, to benefit the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Doors open at 8:00 a.m. with Session I. American and European Keramics kicking off the auction at 10:00 with offerings from such sought after names as Weller, Roseville, Newcomb, Boch Freres,  Owens, Paul Dachsel, Gambone, Grueby, Teco, Wheatley, Carlton Ware, Chinese Porcelain, Nippon, Satsuma, Moorcroft, Doulton,  Van Briggle, UND, Overbeck, Arequipa, Fulper, Hampshire, Satsuma, Frackelton, Claude Conover, CKAW, Marblehead and Minneapolis Handcraft Guild.

Session II. American and European Art Glass follows Keramics. Beginning at approximately 3:00, this session presents some of the finest producers of Art Glass from 1900 to the present, including Steuben, Galle’, Tiffany, Lotton, Satava, Orientalia, Labino, Smallhouse, Orient and Flume, Daum Nancy, Lalique, Loetz, Royal Flemish, Legras, English Cameo, Mark Peiser, Susan Gott, Lundberg, Silver, Schneider, Muller Freres, Palme-Konig, Val St. Lambert, Baccarat and Rindskopf.

On Sunday morning, Session III. Rookwood begins at 10:00, featuring the antique Art Pottery that came to be known as Cincinnati’s and indeed America’s finest –Rookwood Pottery. The Rookwood session highlighted by important examples of Iris glaze, Sea Green, Painted Mat, Vellum, Decorated Porcelain, Black Opal, Dull Finish and Decorated Mat including vases and plaques done by decorators including Sara Sax, Carl Schmidt, M.A. Daly, Kataro Shirayamadani, Arthur Conant, E.T. Hurley, Albert Valentien, Anna Valentien, Harriet Wilcox and Jens Jensen. Session III also holds a selection of rare and unusual bookends and paperweights.
