Lot No. 1527

Manufacturer: Mayna Treanor Avent

Artist: Mayna Treanor Avent

Description: Mayna Treanor Avent (American, 1868-1959 active in Tennessee and Massachusetts) Provincetown style “white line” woodblock, a stylized view of a man and a woman walking through the streets of Provincetown. Titled in pencil “In Provincetown” and signed by the artist in the lower margin. A small area in the lower right margin shows an erasure of some nature. Image size is 13 by 11 inches and overall size with newer frame is 22 1/2 by 18 1/2 inches. Not examined out of the frame but appears to be in excellent condition with good color and no mat burn. Avent was born in the Nashville area, studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and Academie Julian in Paris. At some point, Avent was introduced to the white line block print method made famous by artists working in the Provincetown area. Much of her Summer work was done in a remote cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Estimate: $1,500.00 - $2,000.00
