Artist: Joseph Henry Sharp

Description: Oil on canvas attributed to Joseph Henry Sharp (American, New Mexico, Cincinnati 1859 to 1953) featuring two children sleeping in a doorway. Signed J.H. Sharp lower right. Sight size is 12 by 18 inches and overall size in its elaborate gold finish shadow box frame is 23 by 29 inches. Overall condition is excellent although the canvas has been relined. No evidence of in painting. Sharp is best know for portraits of Native Americans but early in his career, while training in Belgium, he did studies of old people and children. This painting comes out of the Cincinnati area but there is no history of ownership or origin.
