Lot No. 1415
Manufacturer: Victor C. Anderson
Artist: Victor C. Anderson
Description: Victor C. Anderson (American, Texas, New York, 1882 to 1937) oil on canvas thought to have been a Life Magazine cover depicting Adam and Eve creating an invitation for his animals friends. Signed Victor C. Anderson + ES lower left. Sight size is 23 3/8 by 19 3/8 inches. Overall size with newer frame is 29 7/8 by 25 7/8 inches. Excellent condition. A partial paper label affixed to the back of the canvas has the following notation: “Don’t fail to invite the monkeys, Adam. They belong to one of the first families.” We are not sure what this references. The consignor claims to have had a letter from the Chicago Historical Society identifying the painting as a Life cover but the letter has gone missing. We do know that Anderson did several covers for Life. Excellent condition with perhaps 2% inpaint under blacklight.
Estimate: $1,000.00 - $1,500.00
