Lot No. 0498
Manufacturer: Aaron Bohrod
Artist: Aaron Bohrod
Description: Aaron Bohrod (American, Illinois, Wisconsin, 1907-1992) trompe l’oeil still life (oil on Masonite) painted in 1962 and entitled “Sere and Yellow.” Pictured are a desiccated apple hanging on a string (the reason for the title), a dandelion stem, a photo of an old woman and a photo of two old and weathered hands all of which are posed in front of a weathered wooden board. All belie the fact that they are the work of the artist and not actual photos. Signed lower center on a piece of charred paper. Affixed to the back is a paper label signed by Bohrod with title and medium listed along with his Madison, Wisconsin address. Sight size is 15 1/4 by 19 1/4 inches and overall size with new frame is 22 by 26 inches. Excellent condition. Accompanying the painting are photocopies of correspondence between the original owner and Bohrod which are very chatty and revealing. There is also a photocopy of a photograph of Bohrod standing beside “Sere and Yellow” in his studio. Pictured in color in “Aaron Bohrod A Decade of Still Life” on page 233.
Estimate: $4,000.00 - $6,000.00
