Lot No. 0491

Manufacturer: 07

Artist: Elizabeth Nourse

Description: Good Elizabeth Nourse (American, Cincinnati, 1859-1938) watercolor on card stock done in 1891. Pictured are bright red poppies and daisies arranged in a copper pot with handle done on the gray paper often seen in her work. Untitled but most likely item E-69 listing in Mary Alice Heekin Burke’s “Elizabeth Nourse, 1859-1938 A Salon Career” on page 240, a listing of a watercolor entitled “Poppies, France 1888-1893”. Signed and dated lower left. Sight size is 24 3/4 by 19 1/8 inches and overall size with frame is 28 3/4 by 23 1/8 inches. Housed in a period frame with a label from “The Veerhoff Established 1871” with an image of the Washington Monument. This seems appropriate since the painting has been in the D.C. area for many years. Not examined out of the frame but appears to be in excellent original condition. The frame has several areas of paint loss and nicks and the piece is not archivally framed.

Estimate: $6,000.00 - $8,000.00
