Description: Impressive Royal Vienna, Ernst Wahliss centerpiece tureen with cover mounted on platform. The paintings one on each side of the three pieces have mythological subjects, signed F. Wagner, Wein or having the artist’s conjoined initials FW. The cover reveals an attendant bathing Diana along the bank of a creek, hunting dogs nearby, entitled “Diana im Bade” and Venus with cupid and a reclining Adonis entitled “Venus and Adonis” both titles written in black slip inside the lid. The tureen has Herse going to the temple of Minerva, entitled in the gold border “Herse Geht Zum Temple Der Minerva”. The opposing side has Venus obtaining weapons, entitled “Venus Erhalt Von Vulkan Die Waffen Fur Aeneas” in the gold border. The platform has children playing with lambs on one side and goats on the opposing, entitled “Kinder mit Lamm” and “Spielende Kinder” written in black slip underneath. There is a partial Ernst Wahliss paper sticker inside the cover and a U.S. Customs paper shield sticker within the tureen. The tureen and platform are marked with the blue beehive under the glaze and stamped “Made in Austria” and have an M.F.A. paper sticker with William M. Prest written in script. The set is meticulously embellished in fine raised gold over a cobalt backdrop. Oral history says this centerpiece came from the Dodge Estate. Magnificent centerpiece with impeccable workmanship. Excellent original condition.
