Lot No. 0457

Manufacturer: C.A. Meurer

Artist: Charles Meurer

Description: Large oil on canvas, a painting of Pigeon Hill near Muskegon, Michigan, done by Cincinnati artist Charles Alfred Meurer (1865-1955). Pigeon Hill seems to have been a recurring theme for Meurer as we found a nearly identical (but much smaller) version sold through Susanin’s Auctioneers & Appraisers in 2007. A photo of Pigeon Hill taken from a vintage postcard is available. Estate signature lower right. Sight size is 28 1/2 by 40 1/4 inches. With new frame 34 5/8 by 46 5/8 inches. The painting has been relined and reframed by the artist’s estate and is in very good original condition with minor inpainting in the sky. Marked with a stamp on the back of the canvas which reads “Estate of Charles A. Meurer. This painting has an estate stamp/signature applied under the authority of Charles Frazee, direct descendant of Charles A. Meurer.”

Estimate: $1,200.00 - $1,700.00
