Description: Large polychromed earthenware vase with frolicking horses done in the mid 1940’s by Waylande Gregory. The speckled ground and the horses themselves are done in bright enamel-like glazes with much fired on gold. There is a cast hole in the base either for wiring or for drainage should the vase be left outside. Excellent condition. A similar example with Mermaid decoration is pictured in Folk, “Waylande Gregory Art Deco Ceramics and the Atomic Impulse” on page 149 and discussed therein on page 141. From the Estate of Waylande Gregory. Height is 15 1/8 inches.
