Manufacturer: Ceramic Art Company

Description: The Ceramic Art Company, long a supplier of porcelain bodies and glazes for china painters offered a competition in 1897 using a standard size and shape bowl to be decorated and judged. This piece, done by an unknown artist features pink flowers and green leaves both inside and out with fired on gold at rim and foot. As with all CAC pieces made for the competition, this one is marked with a green ink stamp featuring two wreaths, one containing the name “The Ceramic Art Co. Trenton, N.J.” below which is the notation “National Porcelain Painting Competition 1897” and below that another wreath to contain the initials of the submitting artist. In this case, the initials in red are indecipherable. Height is 3 1/8 inches and width is 7 3/4 inches. Loss of gold at foot and a few pepper spots in the porcelain.
