Lot No. 0510

Manufacturer: Steuben

Artist: Frederick Carder

Description: Frederic Carder, Steuben Glass Works pate-de-vere plaque showing a shirtless man wearing long pants handling a straight bar to adjust an object on an industrial cart having cast metal wheels. The factory laborer appears to be from the early 1900’s, possibly the likeness of an employee at the Steuben Glass Works factory. The figure and tools are in high relief, the figure rising 1 1/8 inches above the surface of the plaque. Measures 11 5/8 inches tall, 6 5/8 inches wide with a 2 inch thickness at the man’s shoulder. Unmarked. Factory, in the making irregularities along the edges. Retains, though faint, the acquisition number from the Ross C. Purdy Museum Collection. The Corning Museum of Glass in New York possesses two plaques with the same image, Frederick Carder confirmed as the maker. Noteworthy, both museums plaques are a solid color, the plaque in this auction was made in two colors. Impressive and quite unique.

Estimate: $4,000.00 - $6,000.00
