Artist: Ferdinand Burgdorff

Description: Ferdinand Burgdorff (American, Ohio, California 1881-1975) oil on canvas entitled “Guilded Sunset.” Born in Cleveland, Ohio and studied at the Cleveland School of Art and later in Paris with Rene Menard and Florence Este. He began making trips to California and New Mexico soon after and most of his impressionistic works are done on the coast or the desert Southwest. Done in 1919, this painting is signed by Burgdorff and dated in the lower right hand corner. It is fitted with a newer Arts & Crafts style metal (Gold?) leaf finished corner frame. Sight size is 17 1/2 by 21 inches and with frame, the total size is 26 3/4 by 30 inches. There is some craqueleur in the areas of heavy impasto and minor stretcher marks from the center stretcher. Amazing color.
