Manufacturer: Elizabeth Heil Alke

Artist: Elizabeth Heil Alke

Description: Elizabeth Heil Alke (American, Ohio, Cincinnati, 1877 - 1938) oil on canvas entitled “Springtime.” Born near Columbus, Ohio, Alke was a student at the Cincinnati Art Academy and resided for most of her adult life in the Cincinnati area. She married her fellow Art Academy student, Stephen Alke sometime after 1915. This painting is most likely a view of a small farm below the Kentucky hills along the Ohio River near the Alke’s home in New Richmond. Sight size is 27 3/8 by 30 1/4 inches and size with the frame is 32 5/8 by 35 1/2 inches. Provenance: From the Estate Sale of Louis and Louise Dieterle Nippert, September 28, 2014. The painting was under glass and quite dirty. It has been cleaned, mounted on a stretcher and placed in a simple gold leaf frame. It is in excellent condition with some minor craquelleur in areas of heavy impasto. The title “Springtime” was written in pencil on the back of the original frame. Signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner. A copy of the sale brochure from the Nippert Auction showing the painting is included.

Estimate: $5,000.00 - $7,000.00
