Description: Important American illustrator Frank E. Schoonover (Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, 1877-1972) charcoal illustration for Scribner’s Magazine in February, 1918. Initialed and dated 1916 lower right, the work was used in Volume LXIII, No. 12 opposite page 208 but we do not have the title or name of the story for which it was used. Pictured is a woman seated at a table with a large samovar beside her while a white haired man locks the door behind her. The drawing appears also in the Schoonover Catalog Raisonne’ as # 765, Vol. 1; page 265. Sight size is 23 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches. Overall size with frame is 27 by 21 inches. There are tears and wrinkles to the paper in the lowest portion of the drawing. Not examined out of the frame which is quite new.
