Fine Burgun Schverer and Company, Meisenthal handled vase. The golden honey vessel is depicted with a Roman Gladiator wearing full metal armor and embraced by a beautiful young maiden. The twosome are standing between Gothic architectural columns connected by elaborate baroque drapery. A diagonal banner over the drapery reveals a medley of animals cut into the surface. Next to one of the columns the warrior has taken the liberty of leaning his shield and bow. A raptorial bird, symbolic of spiritual power, glides in from above silhouetted by a golden sun. The handles, the neck and base are embellished with enameling and cut designs. The entire vase is embellished with fine cutting and lavished with enamel and gold application. Height 9 inches. Green coloring is set within the amber glass, mostly noticeable inside the rim. Marked “Meisenthal, B.S & Co” inside a rayed sun symbol by way of hand enameling. Aristocratic vessel in excellent original condition. A must for the advanced collector.
