Lot No. 1019

Manufacturer: Rookwood

Artist: Grace Young

Description: Large Standard Glaze plaque, composed in the Old Master style by Grace Young in 1903, depicting two Dutch gentlemen seated at a table, after a similar work by Jan de Bray. Impressed on rear with a large Rookwood insignia, the date and shape X 1188 X and incised “After de Bray” and with Miss Young’s monogram. There are a few pinpoint burst glaze bubbles and the plaque has been completely oversprayed. We believe this was to restore some firing separations at the edges, a phenomenon which occurred with large plaques of this type. Benefitting from the artist’s fine portraiture skills and coupled with the scarcity of Standard Glaze plaques, it is quite appealing. Size is 10 inches by 14 3/8 inches.

Estimate: $2,500.00 - $3,500.00
