Lot No. 1017

Manufacturer: Rookwood

Artist: Kataro Shirayamadani

Description: Standard Glaze ewer decorated in 1888 by Kataro Shirayamadani with a dragon stretching around the shoulder of the vessel. Impressed with the Rookwood symbol, which provides the date, shape number 62 and an S for sage clay body and incised with an L for the Master’s preference for the Light Standard Glaze and with his Japanese script signature. There is fine, light crazing and restoration to a chip beneath the spout. Height is 9 1/8 inches. This was decorated during Shirayamadani’s second year at Rookwood and demonstrates that his decorating skills were already quite considerable.

Estimate: $1,000.00 - $1,500.00
