Rare and important Roseville Della Robbia vase carved and painted by Golde Barnell. The vase contains five panels, each with yellow and orange poppies running vertically from base to reticulated rim. A total of seven colors were used in the decoration and of course, the carving is deep and intricate. The vase is marked with a Rozane Ware wafer seal and signed “Golde” on the side. Height 17 3/8 inches. This is shape number 13 in the Della Robbia line and cost was $40 in 1905. Professional restoration to about half the reticulated rim and some associated lines and glaze loss. A nearly identical vase is pictured in Bassett, “Understanding Roseville Pottery” on page 82.
