Lot No. 1178

Manufacturer: Rookwood

Artist: John Dee Wareham

Description: Rare Iris glaze tyg with electroplated bats around the bottom done in 1899 by John Dee Wareham and later exhibited at the Paris Exposition in 1900. The Special Shape piece has carved pink poppies which extend upward from the base while several bats flutter about below. The electroplated copper on which the bats reside was then plated with gold. We have only seen gold on one other piece in 35 years. Keep in mind that the electroplating was done at Rookwood and not done by an outside firm. Marks include the company logo, the date, Special Shape number S 1559, the incised initials of Mr. Wareham and most of an original Rookwood oval paster used for the Paris Universal Exposition in 1900. Height 9 3/8 inches. Fine overall crazing and minor loss of the gold plating on the copper.

Size: 9 3/8

Estimate: $20,000.00 - $30,000.00
